Peggy Gehl

Judge Gehl is a graduate of the University of Denver Sturm College of Law where, with an A grade point average, she was selected to write for the Denver Law Journal. She began her legal career as an associate for the law firm of Fleming, O’Bryan & Fleming, where she mentored under some of the finest insurance defense attorneys in South Florida. Courtroom work agreed with the first female lawyer in the firm, paving the way for future success on the bench in Broward civil and criminal courts.

Civil litigation, insurance defense, probate litigation and family law made up the lion’s share of her thirteen years in private practice.

Along with her journalism degree from the University of Florida, she developed strong writing skills with a keen attention to detail. She was appointed as a General Magistrate in mental health and guardianship by the Chief Judge in 1989, then launched into child support enforcement, modifications of child support, and domestic violence. Appointed to the bench in 1995, she broadened her extensive knowledge of the law into the criminal arena.

Upon leaving her judicial seat, Judge Gehl was designated as a senior judge by the Florida Supreme Court, which certification she has held since 2010. Sitting senior, she enjoyed several years of service in the probate division, family law division, and domestic violence division. She became certified by the Florida Supreme Court as a Family, Circuit/Civil and County mediator in 2015, enjoying her focus on:

  • Probate
  • Trusts
  • Guardianships
  • Insurance Coverage and damages
  • Elder Law
  • Commercial / Business Disputes
  • Breach of Contract
  • Real Property Disputes
  • Construction
  • Landlord/Tenant Disputes
  • Homeowner / Condominium Disputes
  • Attorneys Fees
  • Equitable Distribution in Family Cases
  • Parental Sharing
  • Medical Claims

With a breadth of experience few family mediators can offer, Judge Gehl is able to bring the experience, compassion, and practical resolutions she learned on the bench to family mediations, reflecting years on the bench determining dissolutions, equitable distributions, and all aspects of child sharing.
